Slough Day Use Area (Deschutes River Trail)

Slough Day Use Area is located on the Upper Deschutes River and has a gentle river flow, a good amount of parking for a small shoot and six tables.  It is open from 6am-10pm.  There is a boat ramp for easy access to the river.

The river is surrounded by ponderosa trees and water reeds, and is reasonably deep, starting at about a foot.

The unpaved/dirt road in is bumpy and should be approached slowly.

Permits are required from the Deschutes National Forest Service and should be requested between 21-30 days in advance of your shoot.

Lava Island (Deschutes River Trail)

Lava Island is a small island made of lava across from the Deschutes River. There is a  trail along the Deschutes River Trail, leading to Big Eddy.  It is incredibly picturesque with a small launch area for kayaks and canoes.  There is parking for approximately 10 cars.

Commercial filming permits must be obtained from the Deschutes National Forest Service between 21-30 days in advance of any shooting.

Aspen day use area (Deschutes River Trail)

Aspen day use area is a small launching point for recreational shoots wanting to use kayaks or canoes on the Deschutes River.  Located off the Cascade Lakes Highway and NF 41, this a picturesque area with towering ponderosa trees and relatively calm waters.  The waters are part of the Deschutes River Trail, leading to Big Eddy and Lava Island.  There is limited parking that includes an upper lot for potential crew parking.

Permits are required from the Deschutes National Forest and must be obtained 21-30 days prior to commercial filming.

The Metolius River at Wizard Falls

Wizard Falls, part of the Metolius River is approximately one hour from Bend and 30 minutes from Sisters.  It is located near to Camp Sherman. Follow the signs to Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery, which is across the bridge/river from the Metolius.  Address is 7500 Forest Service Rd 14, Camp Sherman OR 97730

There is limited cell phone reception in the area. 

The river has varying water depths from about a foot to 3-4 feet. The water is crystal clear and quite cold as it is fed from underground and snow melt.

Narrow trails wind along the river.  There is ample parking for a small shoot, located approximately 3-4 minutes from the trailhead and bridge.

Deschutes National Forest permits are required and should be applied for at least ONE MONTH IN ADVANCE of the commercial shoot from the Sisters DNF office.  

Recommendation for accommodation would be the Best Western Ponderosa in Sisters.
