Tam-a-lau trail is located within the Cove Palisades State Park near Madras and Culver, and is a 6.6 mile loop, pretty much in full sun throughout. With a varying amount of landscape from rocks to trees, this is regarded as a moderately challenging trail.
This trail travels uphill to the top of the plateau. From this point, there are views of the Crooked River near the point where it meets the confluence with the Deschutes River. The trail is very exposed and there is no shade at all, so when scouting or filming, be sure to bring plenty of water. An early start is recommended during the summer months.
Permits must be requested through the Cove Palisades State Park office, at least a month in advance. COFO can help with permits.
