The Metolius River at Wizard Falls

Wizard Falls, part of the Metolius River is approximately one hour from Bend and 30 minutes from Sisters.  It is located near to Camp Sherman. Follow the signs to Wizard Falls Fish Hatchery, which is across the bridge/river from the Metolius.  Address is 7500 Forest Service Rd 14, Camp Sherman OR 97730

There is limited cell phone reception in the area.

The river has varying water depths from about a foot to 3-4 feet. The water is crystal clear and quite cold as it is fed from underground and snow melt.

Narrow trails wind along the river.  There is ample parking for a small shoot, located approximately 3-4 minutes from the trailhead and bridge.

Deschutes National Forest permits are required and should be applied for at least ONE MONTH IN ADVANCE of the commercial shoot from the Sisters DNF office.

Recommendation for accommodation would be the Best Western Ponderosa in Sisters.

Pillars of Rome (Eastern Oregon)

We recently visited the Pillars of Rome in Malhuer County, Eastern Oregon and WOW. They did not disappoint.  We felt the ghost of ObiWan Kenobi wandering through here with us!

The 100-foot (30 m)-high Rome Cliffs, or “Pillars of Rome” are formations of fossil-bearing clay, measuring about 5 miles (8 km) long and 2 miles (3 km) wide. They’re located along the Owyhee River in a very remote area.

Filming would be challenging here as there is only one place to stay and they are spartan cabins in Rome itself, part of the one store here. It could be done however, with a team of RV’s on the neighboring cattle property for a price.  It would be well worth it though.
